Kale smoothies and green juices and even verdant breakfast bowls feel like old news. But in the months I’ve spent starting days with a smoothie or a breakfast bowl, I’ve rarely gone green, probably because I OD’d on a bunch at first and got bored. Then as spring’s berries and summer’s stone fruits came along I was pulled into a pinker, peachier palette.
This week’s fall-leaning CSA bounty changed everything. I picked it up (thank you, farmers) so I got the prime pickings–I gave Judy and Elaine, mom friends, the leeks and leafy lettuces and snagged the first pears and kale. Isn’t the bright, shiny nickel what you’d choose too?
I think a pear-kale smoothie combo was among my first roster builders. Nice to see you again, friend. The pear overpowers any grassiness and banana makes the resulting drink or “soup” creamy; cashew milk oomphs it with protein sans calories. It’s my new favorite standby to lean on for school’s start, when we parents need as much energy as we can get.
